Job/Internship Description

The Innovation and Development Division (IDD) drives the innovation strategy for the Hubs and Operations, and contributes to the Group's transformation. It is responsible for imagining, developing and incubating new solutions until they are brought to market, particularly when it comes to offers with a high technological content (including digital and IT). IDD gathers more than 3,000 employees from 70 nationalities at 60 sites.

How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?

The Project Engineer Intern position is designed as a supporting role for the Biogas OTF Project Execution and Delivery group. This position is a highly visible position within Air Liquide Advanced Technologies US LLC (ALATUS), providing key project engineering support in the design, construction, and commissioning of Renewable Gas (RNG) Plants for our business growth. The intern will be responsible for assisting the Project Managers and Project Engineers with directing, overseeing and supporting project execution; including involvement in the engineering, bid process, budgeting, scheduling, forecasting, reporting, and invoicing.

Job Description

  • Serve as a safety role model; promote a high level of safety awareness; adhere to and support the continuous improvement of all safety practices / procedures.

  • Support Project Managers and the project engineer to meet project requirements of communication, coordination, scheduling and budget.

  • Understand overall gas purification and separation process to further understand the purpose of system process equipment and components.

  • Work with the Project Director and Project Managers to create and publish a Project Management System that adheres to the principles of Air Liquide IMS

  • Design and Implement the OTF Roadmap plan for continuous improvement of the Project Execution and Delivery team

  • Review equipment designs / participate in engineering design reviews including equipment & component data sheets, P&IDs, General Arrangement Drawings, etc.

  • Interface with Project Managers to ensure alignment of design, scope of work and timeline.

  • Engage with vendors and fabricators for supply of equipment including technical clarifications, initiating procurement and follow-up.

  • Visit vendor and fabricator workshops for in-process inspections and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT).

  • Participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) and Haz-Op risk reviews for projects in execution.

  • Create project documentation including PSSR documents, RTOR documents, Operating Manuals, other project documents as necessary.

  • Participate in recurring project update & coordination meetings with customers.

  • Work environment is an office environment when not at project sites or at vendor sites.

  • Travel (expected to be less than 20%) to perform start ups and troubleshooting at new / operating RNG facilities or to perform FATs at vendor sites.

  • While at sites during start up, there may be the need to lift up to 50 pounds, but this is not a requirement.

  • Ability and willingness to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while at customer sites, vendor sites and job sites. This may include steel toe boots, Flame Retardant Clothing (FRC), safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, a personal gas monitor, a hard hat, etc. All PPE is provided by Air Liquide.

Required Competencies

  • BS Chemical or Mechanical Engineering Junior/Senior/Graduate.

  • Demonstrates strong process and operational safety behavior at all times.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and knowledge.

  • Ability to work with databases, spreadsheets, SPC, and other computerized tools is required.

  • A self-starter who can maintain effective working relationships with other groups within the company.

  • Excellent flexibility, adaptability, interpersonal skills and job professionalism.

CRITICAL SKILLS:

  • Demonstrates ability to make sound judgment, timely decisions, manage multiple tasks and prioritize/delegate work effectively.

  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities at one time.

  • Demonstrates personal integrity and transparency.

  • Demonstrates ability to effectively communicate with project stakeholders; fluent in English - both written and spoken.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Intermediate knowledge of Google Suite applications (Google Docs, Google Slides and Google Sheets).

  • Working knowledge of Smartsheets (or MS Project) with schedule management skills for preparation of Gantt Charts.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • None required

  • Engineering-In-Training (EIT) certification is a plus

Preferred Competencies

  • Prior internship experience is a strong preference.

  • Ability to plan, schedule, organize, prioritize, and coordinate project activities.

  • Ability to understand and work within a regulated environment.
