Job Description
Description

As a multimarket firm, we touch many areas of life: from designing highways and bridges that connect people, to clean water systems, to hospitals and corporate campuses of the future. That's why we're able to offer endless opportunities for people to hone their skills and strengthen their understanding of different disciplines and perspectives. Behind all the hard work is a team of really sharp, down-to-earth people who love a good challenge - and a good time.

We are seeking a Sustainability and Resiliency Specialist to lead, scope and coordinate sustainability and resiliency project opportunities across Gresham Smith's client portfolio. This role is a key element of Gresham Smith's growth strategy to expand our sustainability, resiliency, and climate change consultancy services to our clients.

Each year, Gresham Smith project team members impact millions of square feet of buildings, hundreds of miles of roadways, millions of gallons of water, and specification of countless materials. Our teams build and shape communities. As a Sustainability and Resiliency Specialist you will guide project teams to account for future conditions while supporting the local community and using fewer natural resources.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate Project Integration: Collaborate with project teams across the firm to integrate sustainability and resiliency solutions in line with stated goals. Facilitate technical discipline-specific discussions and conduct research to support the team regarding emerging technical solutions and approaches. Communicate next steps and report on project decisions, as requested by the project team.
  • Technical Expertise: Be willing to develop expertise in two or more areas including but not limited to carbon, energy, water, climate risk, circular economy, organizational ESG reporting and/or social value. Take the lead in executing project specific requests, as needed. Promote awareness of emerging technical trends with others in the Sustainability and Resiliency Center as well as across the firm. Help build expertise, tools, partnerships and processes to enable further integration into projects.
  • Third-party Certification: Technically support other Sustainability and Resiliency Center team members with integration of LEED, Green Globes and/or Fitwel rating system requirements and reporting of discipline-specific data items.
  • Manage and Report Project Progress: As a key team member of the Sustainability and Resiliency Center, participate in the ongoing project performance metric collection and continuous improvement analysis. Manage your assigned tasks to meet scope, schedule and budget. Participate in championing sustainability and resiliency initiatives to drive progress and positive change.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience doing Sustainability and Resiliency work.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in environmental science/management, sustainability, business administration, engineering, architecture, economics, basic/applied science (such as physics, chemistry, material science, earth sciences, etc.), social science, geography, public policy, political science, resource management, anthropology or a similar discipline.
  • Passion, energy, and commitment to sustainability and resiliency in the built environment.
  • Knowledge of resource efficiency, decarbonization, circular economy, sustainable material selection/procurement, climate risk, organizational ESG reporting, risk assessments, urban planning, supply chain, life-cycle assessments, renewable energy evaluations, and/or community and social value evaluations.
  • Experience writing and developing reports, presentations and delivering workshops for both technical and non-technical audiences.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Preferably 5 or more years of experience doing Sustainability and Resiliency work.
  • Awareness of carbon accounting, Science-Based Target Initiative, TCFD alignment process and sustainability reporting frameworks such as GRI, GHG Protocol, CDP, the Airport Carbon Accreditation Program, and/or SASB.
  • Strong data analysis skills with experience translating outputs into data visualization graphics.
  • Experience providing advisory and practical support in embedding sustainability and/or resiliency within projects and organizations.
  • Accreditation in one or more rating system programs such as LEED, Living Building, Envision, WELL, Fitwel, SITES, Green Globes, BREEAM, etc.
  • Experience with completing grant applications and meeting grant requirements.
